Dan Schmitt
Dan founded RMC Events in April of 1999 and currently serves as President. Since it’s inception, Dan has guided RMC Events from 8 to over 1700 staff members and from 16 events in 1999 to nearly 6000 events in 2013. “Growth”, Schmitt explains, “was not just important on the bottom line. It has always been just as important for us to grow as a family. I was raised in an environment where work and family co-existed and both shared many of the same key values.”
A graduate of the University of Richmond, Dan completed industry internships and work experiences with the New York Yankees, Richmond Renegades hockey franchise, and the Richmond Coliseum. Upon graduation, Schmitt worked at the Richmond Coliseum as Marketing Assistant before taking promotions to Event Coordinator, and eventually Operations Manager. Dan states that “those years at the Coliseum were so important to me. I was able to touch so many areas of this industry that I’ve come to love. I wrote press releases, placed media buys for Disney on Ice, painted the ice for hockey, hired and scheduled staff, spread mulch, and picked up popcorn buckets and cups after the Circus. I developed an understanding for the full picture of the industry and just how hard you have to work to be fully prepared on event day.”
Dan is recognized by the Department of Criminal Justice Services as a Subject Matter Specialist Instructor, has successfully completed FEMA certification in ICS 100 & 200, NIMS 700, and IS-15 Special Event Contingency Planning. Schmitt has also completed training in Special Event Risk Management from the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety & Security and several DHS workshops including Campus Safety and IED Awareness Training. In addition, Schmitt has completed TIPS training for alcohol awareness, and CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid training through the American Red Cross. Lastly, Dan currently serves on the Private Security Services Advisory Board for the Department of Criminal Justice Services and regularly serves as a guest speaker at the University of Richmond Business School, the VCU Center for Sports Leadership, and the VSU Sports Management graduate and undergraduate program.
“I’m fortunate enough to wake up every day and absolutely love what I do”, says Schmitt. “I welcome the variety, I chase opportunities, I focus on flexibility, I embrace the challenges, I accept nothing but success, and I refuse to settle for mediocrity. The RMC Events ‘difference’ is not the fact that I believe in those things, it’s that our 1700+ RMC family members believe them too. Success truly IS Built Upon Good People First.”
Dan coaches youth baseball and serves on the Glen Allen Youth Athletics Board. He and Sharon currently reside in Glen Allen, Virginia with their two children and two dogs where they all (dogs included) are avid fans of the New York Yankees, Washington Capitals, and the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
